Byteling hat kein Konto, zeigt keine Werbung und verfolgt dich nicht. Dein Spielstand liegt auf deinem iPhone — und, falls du Geräte-Backups nutzt, in deinem eigenen iCloud- oder Computer-Backup. Wir, der Anbieter, bekommen aus der App keine Daten über dich.

Was auf deinem Gerät bleibt

• Spielstand: dein Byteling, Tagebuch, Gesprächsverlauf, Notizen, die sich dein Byteling über dich merkt, Gegenstände und Einstellungen. Eine Datei im App-Ordner auf deinem iPhone. Wie alle App-Daten ist sie Teil deiner Geräte-Backups über iCloud oder deinen Computer, sofern du sie nutzt.
• Widget: Name, Stimmung, Bindungsstufe und der letzte Satz deines Bytelings, im gemeinsamen Speicher von App und Widget auf deinem iPhone. Bei gesperrtem iPhone blendet iOS den Satz aus.
• Widget-Schnappschuss: falls du das Home-Screen-Widget benutzt, legt die App eine kleine zweite Kopie an, damit das Widget dein Byteling zeigen kann, ohne die App zu starten: Name, Art, Stimmung, Bindungsstufe und der zuletzt gesagte Satz. Sie liegt im gemeinsamen Ordner von App und Widget auf deinem iPhone und ist wie der Spielstand Teil deiner Geräte-Backups. „Byteling zurücksetzen" löscht sie mit.
• Mitteilungen: falls du sie einschaltest, plant die App sie auf deinem iPhone. Es gibt keinen Server, der sie verschickt.

Nichts davon wird an uns übertragen. Wenn du unter „Gespräch teilen“ ein Gespräch als Textdatei weitergibst, entscheidest du im Teilen-Menü selbst, wohin sie geht.

Die Gehirne deines Bytelings

Cozy Brain und Apple Intelligence

Beide antworten direkt auf deinem iPhone. Das Cozy Brain antwortet mit vorgefertigten Sätzen, die wir geschrieben haben, und ist keine KI; Apple Intelligence ist eine KI auf dem Gerät (ab iPhone 15 Pro). Deine Nachrichten verlassen das Gerät dabei nicht.

Schwierige Momente

Klingt eine Nachricht so, als ginge es dir nicht gut, antwortet Byteling immer direkt auf dem Gerät und nennt eine Anlaufstelle. Diese Nachricht wird nirgendwohin gesendet.

Adresse, Telefonnummer, Schule

Schreibst du so etwas, antwortet Byteling direkt auf dem Gerät, merkt es sich nicht und schreibt es nicht ins Tagebuch. Die Nachricht wird nirgendwohin gesendet. Sie steht nur in deinem eigenen Gesprächsverlauf auf dem iPhone, wie jede andere Nachricht (dort bleiben die letzten 200 Nachrichten, „Byteling zurücksetzen“ löscht sie).

Kamera (Codex)

Wenn du deinem Byteling etwas zeigst, erkennt dein iPhone das Motiv selbst. Das Foto wird weder gespeichert noch hochgeladen. Im Spielstand steht danach nur, welches Ding ihr entdeckt habt.

Standort

Nur im Moment eines Scans fragt die App einmal deinen Standort ab und vergleicht ihn auf dem Gerät mit einer Liste besonderer Orte. Der Standort wird nicht gespeichert und nicht gesendet, und es gibt keine Hintergrund-Ortung. Gespeichert wird nur, welcher besondere Ort freigeschaltet wurde.

Mikrofon und Spracheingabe

Deine Sprache wird auf dem iPhone in Text umgewandelt, wenn dein Gerät das unterstützt. Andernfalls verarbeitet Apples Spracherkennungsdienst die Aufnahme nach der Datenschutzrichtlinie von Apple.

Alle drei Berechtigungen fragt die App erst, wenn du die jeweilige Funktion benutzt. Du kannst sie jederzeit in den iOS-Einstellungen entziehen.

Käufe und Abo

Käufe und Byteling Plus laufen vollständig über Apple, ebenso das Einlösen eines Codes. Zahlungsdaten erhalten wir nicht. Welche Käufe du besitzt, prüft die App über Apples StoreKit auf deinem Gerät.

Wenn du uns schreibst

Schreibst du uns eine E-Mail, zum Beispiel über „Feedback senden" in der App, verarbeiten wir deine Adresse und Nachricht, um dir zu antworten (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b und f DSGVO), und löschen sie, wenn sie dafür nicht mehr gebraucht werden.

Diese Website

byteling.app setzt keine Cookies, verwendet keine Analyse-Werkzeuge und lädt keine externen Schriftarten oder Skripte. Der Hosting-Anbieter IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, verarbeitet beim Aufruf technisch notwendige Daten wie IP-Adresse, Zeitpunkt und aufgerufene Seite, um die Seite auszuliefern und abzusichern (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO).

Diese Zugriffsdaten bewahrt IONOS nach eigener Angabe höchstens acht Wochen auf und löscht sie danach. Mit IONOS besteht ein Vertrag zur Auftragsverarbeitung nach Art. 28 DSGVO. Einen Einwilligungsbanner musst du hier nicht wegklicken: Ohne Cookies, ohne Formular und ohne Analyse-Werkzeuge gibt es nichts, wozu wir dich fragen müssten.

Wenn du eine Antwort deines Bytelings meldest („Antwort melden" oder langes Drücken auf die Sprechblase), öffnet die App deine Mail-App mit einem fertigen Entwurf: darin stehen die gemeldete Antwort, deine Nachricht davor, der Name des gewählten Gehirns sowie App-Version, iOS-Version und Geräteart. Du siehst den Entwurf, bevor du ihn abschickst, und kannst ihn verwerfen. Erst mit dem Absenden erreicht uns etwas.

Es gibt kein Formular und keinen Newsletter: Die Seite sammelt keine E-Mail-Adressen und keine anderen personenbezogenen Daten. Wer uns schreibt, tut das über sein eigenes Mailprogramm.

Alter

Byteling ist ab 13 Jahren. Die App fragt das vor dem ersten Start ab.

Löschen

• Einzelne Notizen über dich löschst du im Tagebuch unter „Über dich".
• „Byteling zurücksetzen" in den Einstellungen löscht den Spielstand, gerettete Kopien eines beschädigten Spielstands, die Daten des Widgets und die gewählte Gehirn-Einstellung. Danach ist die App wieder wie frisch installiert.
• Wenn du die App löschst, entfernt iOS alle ihre Daten von deinem iPhone.

Deine Rechte

Du hast das Recht auf Auskunft, Berichtigung, Löschung, Einschränkung der Verarbeitung, Datenübertragbarkeit und Widerspruch (Art. 15–21 DSGVO) sowie das Recht, dich bei einer Datenschutz-Aufsichtsbehörde zu beschweren. Da wir aus der App keine Daten über dich speichern, betrifft das vor allem E-Mails, die du uns geschickt hast.

In short

Byteling has no account, shows no ads and does not track you. Your save file lives on your iPhone and, if you use device backups, in your own iCloud or computer backup. We, the provider, receive no data about you from the app.

What stays on your device

• Save file: your Byteling, diary, chat history, the notes your Byteling keeps about you, items and settings. One file in the app's folder on your iPhone. Like all app data, it is part of your device backups via iCloud or your computer, if you use them.
• Widget: name, mood, bond level and your Byteling's last line, in the storage that the app and the widget share on your iPhone. When your iPhone is locked, iOS hides the line.
• Widget snapshot: if you use the Home Screen widget, the app keeps a small second copy so the widget can show your Byteling without starting the app: name, species, mood, bond level and the last line it said. It sits in the folder that the app and the widget share on your iPhone and, like the save file, is part of your device backups. “Reset Byteling” deletes it too.
• Notifications: if you switch them on, the app schedules them on your iPhone. No server sends them.

None of this is sent to us. If you pass on a chat as a text file with “Share chat”, you decide in the share menu where it goes.

Your Byteling's brains

Cozy Brain and Apple Intelligence. Both answer directly on your iPhone. The Cozy Brain answers with prewritten lines that we wrote and is not an AI; Apple Intelligence is an AI on the device (iPhone 15 Pro or newer). Your messages do not leave the device.

Difficult moments. If a message sounds as if you are not doing well, Byteling always answers directly on the device and names a place to get help. That message is not sent anywhere.

Address, phone number, school. If you write something like that, Byteling answers directly on the device, does not remember it and does not write it into the diary. The message is not sent anywhere. It stays only in your own chat history on the iPhone, like any other message (the last 200 messages are kept there; “Reset Byteling” deletes them).

Camera, location, microphone

Camera (Codex). When you show your Byteling something, your iPhone recognises the subject itself. The photo is neither stored nor uploaded. Afterwards the save file only records which thing you discovered together.

Location. Only at the moment of a scan, the app checks your location once and compares it on the device with a list of special places. Your location is not stored and not sent, and there is no background tracking. Only the special place that was unlocked is stored.

Microphone and dictation. Your speech is turned into text on the iPhone if your device supports it. Otherwise Apple's speech recognition service processes the recording under Apple's privacy policy.

The app asks for each of these three permissions only when you use the feature. You can withdraw them at any time in the iOS Settings.

Purchases and subscription

Purchases and Byteling Plus are handled entirely by Apple, and so is redeeming a code. We do not receive payment data. The app checks which purchases you own through Apple's StoreKit on your device.

If you write to us

If you send us an email, for example with “Send Feedback” in the app, we process your address and message to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them when they are no longer needed for that.

If you report one of your Byteling's replies (“Report reply” or a long press on the speech bubble), the app opens your mail app with a ready draft: it contains the reported reply, your message before it, the name of the chosen brain, and the app version, iOS version and device type. You see the draft before you send it and can discard it. Nothing reaches us until you send it.

This website

byteling.app sets no cookies, uses no analytics tools and loads no external fonts or scripts. The hosting provider IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, processes technically necessary data such as IP address, time and the page requested when you visit, in order to deliver and secure the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

According to IONOS, these access logs are kept for at most eight weeks and then deleted. We have a data processing agreement with IONOS under Art. 28 GDPR. There is no consent banner to click away: with no cookies, no forms and no analytics tools, there is nothing we would need to ask you about.

There is no form and no newsletter: the site collects no email addresses and no other personal data. If you write to us, you do so from your own mail program.

Age

Byteling is for ages 13 and up. The app asks before the first start.

Deleting

• You delete single notes about you in the diary under “About you”.
• “Reset Byteling” in the settings deletes the save file, rescued copies of a damaged save file, the widget's data and the chosen brain setting. Afterwards the app is as if freshly installed.
• If you delete the app, iOS removes all of its data from your iPhone.

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Since we store no data about you from the app, this mainly concerns emails you have sent us.
